FEBRUARY    
6th AGM

Annual Digital Competition – Judge John Brady

The night when the best-of the best from the year's digital images come together with a fair smattering of new, unseen work too, and battle it out for the big one!
20th Les Forrester - A Retrospective The night where Les gets to stand up in-front of us all and show us his latest work. Bound to be excellent imagery & another chance to learn from an expert in his field.
24th (friday) Annual Dinner Held at Boccaccio on Smyth Street
27th Image of the year The last meeting of the 2011/12 calendar sees the "Image Of The Year" awards....a "best of" in terms of the club's output from the previous 12 months. Awards made & prizes dished out - bound to be great work on display, so please come along.
MARCH    
5th Light night  + A4 Comp John Gardner presents us with hints/tips on lighting a model & set-up for your camera. Bring your equipment along as it's a hands-on night. Also bring in un-mounted A4 prints for the informal on-the-night competition.
12th RPS Projected Image Exhibition Our chance as a club to sit through the RPS entries on the big screen, picking apart the good from the bad - always a great way to learn about how to compose a winning image.
19th Mersea Island Photo Competition. Judge Jerry Padgett 10 images of ours go head-to-head against 5 other clubs nationwide (all 60 viewed tonight) - scores added to the table & the top 3 clubs in our group contest the final in Wakefield (as we're current Champions) on 30th April.

26th Guest Speakers - Tony & Marjorie Furmston
(Bring entries for the 1st Clubman Comp - Subject Construction)
 
Tony & Marjorie come very much as a team - sharing their love of photography & Audio/Visual presentations, this evening will be studded with work of the highest order, as "Anything Goes"!
APRIL    
2nd How To & Club Challenge - Introduction There'll be leaders, teams & photo challenges....and a twist that's still to be announced!

9th Easter Monday - No Meeting  
16th 1st Clubman Competition - Construction - Judge Martin Lichfield The first big competition of the club year and a chance to see what you've been up to in the winter months....construction's the theme, but there'll be no need for hard hats on the night...unless you're the judge!!
23rd Guest Speaker - Brian Beaney It's our pleasure to welcome Brian tonight who specializes in a combination of fine art meets photography - click here to whet your appetite at his own website.
29th - Sunday Annual Outing - Chester Zoo In conjunction with the weekend away to Chester, day-trippers are invited to meet at the zoo (website here for directions/costs etc) for a day with exotic creatures, some of which can be dangerous, others docile....but that's enough about the other members - there'll be wild animals, too!
30th Mersea Island - Final - Judge Erica Oram Hopefully we'll be in this, the culmination of the competition we won last year...all from the comfort of our own club room, too. Click here for the latest on the competition's standings.
MAY    
7th Early May Bank Holiday - No Meeting  
14th Hooton Pagnell - Evening Outing A chance to practise out in the field, as it were, in one of South Yorkshire's best kept secrets - a village so proud it has it's own website ... expect lots of stone buildings, farmers fields, twisty lanes & red a phone box.
21st How To - Macro Night & Video A chance to learn more about the dark art of Macro photography - seeing and photographing the world close up. Expect talk of tripods, very small things made to look very big and focus stacking images to maximise sharp detail despite notoriously shallow depths of field.
28th Audio Visual Demonstration with Trevor Bottomley

Club Treasurer TB shares tips on compiling audio visual presentations in programmes such as ProShow Gold...no slouch with scenic shots either, expect some great photography, too.

4th Spring Bank Holiday - No Meeting

17th (Sunday) Annual Outing - National Railway Museum, York

Forget the roast beef & Yorkshires for once, a great day out awaits at the free-to-enter Railway Museum in York...crammed with super exhibits (& camera friendly policies too) you're on track to have a great day out. Click here for the NRM website.

18th 2nd Clubman Competition - Subject Open - Judge Bob Free Bob Free has the task of whittling down the runners & riders of the digital and printed entries into a first, second & third...Open category, so expect a wide variety of subject matter, and an excellent quality of entries.
25th Guest Speakers - Longridge Mount Cutters An instructional night, giving the ins and outs of making your own mounts for your print work. Doubtless there'll be equipment for sale, too....so bring a few bob, if you're in the market for framing/mounting gear.

1st - Sunday Club Outing to Beamish Beamish - The Living Museum Of The North - up yonder in Co. Durham....a fabulous day out, with loads of period stuff to point the camera at...here's their website.

16th Guest Speaker - Leigh Preston West countryman Leigh visits with 30 years of experience in the photographic industry...and draws on the wealth of knowledge that brings in his presentation tonight. His website, here.
23rd 3rd Clubman Competition - Subject Song Titles - Judge Colin Gower A wide variety of subject matter tonight, all linked by a common theme - that all image titles are song titles, too.

Imagine "Gardeners Question Time" meets photography...yes, a panel of experts (on cameras, not cucumbers!)...imagine a night of everything you ever wanted to know, but were afraid to ask!
Come armed with questions, leave fulfilled & raring to put that new-found info to use.

"A Foray Into Photo-Journalism" is the theme for the evening's guest speaker, as we welcome Colin Sutton along to the Club.
OCTOBER    
1st Guest Speaker - Christine Widdall A check of Christine's own website shows a wide range of subject matter, taken in a wide range of locations, but all underpinned by superb quality photography. Sure to be a night not to miss.
8th Audio Visual Competition – Judge Keith Brown
(Bring entries for the Maurice Biglin Wild Flower Trophy Competition)
Always a great night, where members get to show off their a/v skills, combining lots of images with fitting soundtracks...a heck of a lot of work goes into producing each piece, so come along and show your support.
15th Guest Speaker - Dave Butcher
Dave Butcher is a black and white photographer who writes books as well as illustrated articles for magazines and other publications, such as Black and White Photography magazine. His latest book, "Lake Light" forms the basis of this evening's talk, and judging by the work on his website, you'll need to get in early!
22nd Maurice Biglin Wild Flower Trophy Competition - Judge Peter Thompson
Rules, specific to this competition
Wild flowers, close-up detail & excellent imagery on show tonight, in the second Maurice Biglin Trophy competition...a chance to exhibit the progress you've made since 2011's inaugural event.
29th How To (& Fireworks Advice)
(Bring entries for 5th Clubman Competition - Subject Humour)
What it says on the tin...with Bonfire Night only a week away, you'll need to know all about long exposures, manual focus & tripods in this informative night's presentation...ask as many questions as you like!
NOVEMBER    
5th Outing - Fireworks Images  Still at the planning stage, but it's intended to get out and photograph fireworks (using the tips from last week's "How-to"), then get them back to the club in double-quick time for a bit of a study session on what went wrong, and what went right.
12th 5th Clubman – Subject Humour – Judge TBA TBA has the task of whittling down the runners & riders of the digital and printed entries into a first, second & third...subject of "Humour", so expect much mirth & merriment, and an excellent quality of entries.

3rd Guest Speaker - Bill Mahoney Our own Bill Mahoney's up on the floor tonight, no doubt wowing us with big, scarey animals, exotic birds & all the wealth of knowledge that he brings on the subject of his African safaris too.

17th Winter Social No doubt TB will have most of us scratching our heads at some point with his new-fangled hi-tech photo quiz. As ever, Shirley & Brian Holding will lay on a veritable feast for members new & old & much banter will be exchanged, sending us into the festive period in good spirit.
