What we got up to over the summer!

After the exhibition had been packed away, members had four weeks to themselves. So, our first meeting back gave everyone a chance to catch up and chat about their break.
Sara, Jeff, Brian, David, Sam, and Tracy, made brief presentations illustrating what they'd been up to.
Sara's goal was to complete a photobook of her favourite images. This she achieved, members being very impressed not only with the quality of her work, but also the beautifully produced publication.
Jeff explained how he had set out to learn more about architectural photography in readiness for a forthcoming club competition. A trip to London, Salford Quays, and Leeds. provided a lot of opportunities. He talked about his techniques and having to deal with security guards too!

Brian had also thought about our architecture competition, so his shots included buildings too. He had also been to Holy Island and the Farne Islands, as well as Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh.

The club has a Facebook Group where members can post news and their images. David's garden pond became the subject of a recent post, and in particular, a duck with a frog on its back. He asked for comments and duly responded, demonstrating his Photoshop skills. His presentation on Monday showed the steps taken to achieve the final image.

Wales became the backdrop to many of Sam's images. He explained that he enjoys taking pictures that illustrate our relationship with nature and the world in which we live. A £20 Ebay 135mm lens was used to take a most beguiling shot of his young son. Sam also made a point of saying that he deliberately likes images where the subject is small. The shot below with the yacht being a particular favourite.
Our Syllabus Secretary, Tracy, is working on a year-long project about the Waterton Wall, which surrounds Charles Waterton's Estate, now part of Walton Hall grounds. Some of her images reflected this, as well as a very enjoyable and highly recommended RSPB Wild Flower Walk at Fairburn Ings. She concluded her spot and the evening by saying that she still had 5000 summer images to edit!
Sara, our President, wrapped up the evening by thanking our members for putting on a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
