On Monday 20th June we are having a PRACTICAL EVENING OUTING themed on OUTDOOR PORTRAITS. Following last years successfully outdoor portrait session, we are again having a practical evening where you need to bring your cameras along for a modelling session in the Woods at Newmillerdam.There are many different locations in the woods, so we should be in for a great evening for you to get some fantastic images whilst learning some techniques to do with your own models.We will be meeting at 7:30pm at the side entrance to the woods on Barnsley Road (See attached map). If you park in the main car park you will have a long walk to meet us, plus parking is free on the road side!! As a guide the location is approximately 0.6 miles past the main car park travelling towards Barnsley. The nearest postcode for your satnav is Barnsley Rd, Wakefield WF2 6QH, beyond the St Pierre hotel and just as woods meet the road again.Please remember to bring your £3 on the evening, or pay direct to the club account.The weather looks fine at the moment so we're looking forward to seeing you, your gear and some great images on Monday! ... On the evening of Monday June 6th Wakefield Camera Club will be hosting a live, in person, event at Brookhouse Club starting our very own Jane Lazenby. Jane has a growing marginal and international reputation for her photography and image processing. Tonight Jane will be presenting “Live Shoot and Edit in Old Masters Style” 19:30 - 21:30. will be creating an Old Masters Style Portrait, beginning with a themed photo shoot, followed by a live edit in the second half. GOING, GOING,.......GONE!!On Monday 30th May Wakefield Camera Club will be holding their latest auction night. We haven't been able to hold one for some time due to Covid and they were always one of the highlights of the year. There should be plenty on offer both photography related and otherwise. This event will be held at Brookhouse Club as normal but due to bidding and payment requirements it will be IN PERSON ONLY rather than a hybrid meeting. On Monday 23rd of May we have another club outing to Walton Colliery Nature Park, just a couple of miles south of Wakefield. We will meet up at 6:30pm again in the car park on Shay Lane. NOTE THE EARLIER TIME TO MAKE THE MOST OF THE DAYLIGHT. Despite its name there is no sight of the long-closed colliery, and it now has lakes, heathland and nature reserves. Being close to Wakefield it should allow time for members to get there with plenty of daylight left (if the weather gods are kind to us!). Bring your kit with your best lenses as the weather forecast at the moment is quite good. We look forward to seeing some amazing images.HOW TO GET THERE: Walton Colliery Nature Park is located on the B6378 Shay Lane between Walton and Crofton, the nearest postcode being WF2 6PR. Travelling from Walton, the site is less than a mile from Walton centre and is on the left, about 150mts beyond the first railway bridge. Travelling from Crofton, the site is in about 1 mile and is on the right a few hundred metres beyond another railway bridge. There is a car park which should have plenty of parking. ... On Monday 9th we have a club outing to St Aidan's RSPB Nature Reserve LS26 8AL , just north of Castleford meting up at 6:30pm. NOTE THE EARLIER TIME TO MAKE THE MOST OF THE DAYLIGHT."Just a stone’s throw from the centre of Leeds, St Aidan’s is a stunning park to explore. Whether you’re on foot, on your bike, riding your horse or have your camera at the ready, take advantage of the amazing views and wonderful wildlife including bitterns, avocets, black terns, skylarks and meadow pipits."The plan is to meet in the car park at about 6.30 ( Apparently it's better to park on the road outside as the car park closes at 8pm).You can find more information at the St Aidan's website at www.rspb.org.uk/reserves-and-events/reserves-a-z/st-aidans/ Getting there by road - Leave the M1 at junction 46 towards Garforth follow the Selby Road/A63, turn right at the roundabout onto A642, turn left after 1.4 miles onto Astley Lane, the reserve is on the right after 1.5 miles.Bring your kit with your best lenses as the weather forecast at the moment is quite good. Hi everyone. I hope everyone's had chance to use the Spring Bank Holiday to get out with their camera today - not the best light or sky but we all like a challenge! Seeing as it's Spring I've tried to capture bluebells - at Newmillerdam a couple of days ago and at the Sculpture Park today as you can see. Just a reminder that as today is a Bank Holiday there will be NO MEETING TONIGHT. On Monday 25th March Wakefield Camera Club held the latest of John Gardner’s Lights Nights. For those that don’t know already, John is both a club member and a very accomplished professional photographer. Each time he brings a lighting setup and a model to demonstrate the effects of various lighting setups. Everyone there gets plenty of opportunity to photograph the model thereby directly benefitting from John’s skills and knowledge. This time he demonstrated what can be achieved with just one light and an umbrella. A couple of images by members from the evening show what can be done with one light.
