Judging of the Maurice Biglin Trophy for 2018

The agenda for the meeting of the Wakefield Camera Club this week was the judging of the annual Maurice Biglin trophy competition which is a set subject of Wild Flowers. Members gave a warm welcome to the judge, Christine Hartley from the New Image Camera Club, Dearne Valley Rotherham. The number of entries might have been very low but the quality of the images submitted were very high. The first section of the evening was the judging of the seven print submissions, this was closely followed by the thirty-one digital entries.  It became very apparent that Bluebells were among the most popular choice for this quite challenging subject but members also saw some excellent images from a variety of other examples that included Dandelions & Daisies, Primrose & Poppies and there was even a ‘weed’. Christine provided each entrant with some thoughtful, useful and constructive feedback on their images with positioning, cropping, removing unwanted elements and vignetting amongst the most popular. In the digital section Christine award a commended to two images and single a highly commended in addition to the three placed images, For the prints Christine award the three placed images. You can see the entires in the gallery below.

It was an interesting evening and hopefully the members have taken away some of the excellent advice offered by Christine to apply to their own images. Members thanked Christine appreciatively.
