Michelle joins the LRPS gang!
Back in June of this year Michelle Howell, Trevor Bottomley and myself, Steve Wright, went with our prints to The Royal Photographic Society HQ for our LRPS assessment. On that occasion only Trevor succeeded, but Michelle and I were referred. Well Michelle returned for her referral on the 27th of October. She had completely replaced the four images which were referred feeling that her more recent work was a cut above the previous prints. The full panel had to be submitted again and she had to wait until the end of the normal assessments which just racked up the tension again. Of the referrals that day Michelle was the first up. The judges were fairly quick as they only had to look at the four new prints rather than the whole panel but Michelle says that she was still nervous and doubting the quality of her work. When the judges have finished the chair speaks and it is normally straight into the decision but this time they decided to give an explanation of the referral process, just prolonging the agony. Eventually the chair returned to Michelle’s panel and uttered those hoped-for words “Is Michelle Howell here today?”. This always indicates that the panel has been accepted so Michelle breathed a large sigh of relief and the chairperson said her panel was to be recommended for approval for LRPS status. Well to bring things up to date Michelle tells me that the award has now been ratified so she is now Michelle Howell LRPS officially so a huge well done. You can see Michelle’s panel below. So what is it next Michelle – CPAGB? ARPS? (As a matter of interest I don’t think it is any coincidence that since going for this status earlier in the year Michelle’s work has been regularly in the top 3 of the club competitions. It really does improve your photography.)
