A couple of reminders this week.SUMMER BREAK - Wakefield Camera Club has now started its summer break – but that doesn’t mean to say there’s nothing going on. Some members have already had ideas for photo outings and as soon as we have some details they will be posted on here. Anyone with wanting to publicise an outing can just add a comment to this post and we’ll try and get it to all members.EXHIBITION – Just a reminder that Wakefield Camera Club will be holding its Annual Exhibition in the Ridings Shopping Centre, August 22nd – 28th. Any member can hand in up to 4 mounted prints for inclusion in the exhibition. Space may be limited so it’s possible that not all four will be displayed but as many as possible from submission will be accommodated. All the prints should be mounted with outside dimensions of 500mm x 400mm and the cut-off date for handing in is the 31st of July. As we have no official meetings for a time, prints can be handed in to any committee member who will then pass them on to Neil Clarke. Alternatively, there should be a committee member at the Brookhouse car park on a Monday night 7.30-8 for any last-minute hand ins. Prints need to the following information on the back: -MEMBER NUMBER (or your name in pencil if you don’t know your number) TITLE SELLING PRICE or NFS (NOT FOR SALE). ... See MoreSee Less

On the 4th July, Wakefield Camera Club will be having a table top evening for members. There will be several different set-ups to try your hand at (lighting, mini studios, different subjects etc.) with members on hand to give guidance. We have been fortunate enough to host some fantastic speakers in recent years (Donna Crous, Justin Garner) offering an insight to these simple yet very creative techniques that members can try at home, so this evening we can look to replicate this. This will be a Practical Evening so do bring your camera / tripod and also a set up or subject if you want to try something a bit different to what’s on offer!Looking forward to seeing you there! ... Tonight Wakefield Camera Club will be holding an informative and very useful evening on printing ... with a purpose. The Wakefield Camera Club Print Exhibition has been missing from the clubs programme for a couple of years due to covid! With the restrictions being lifted, this year will see the return of the exhibition back at the Ridings Shopping centre, so we need to get some prints made and mounted up to look their best but how do members do that! especially when printing has not been as popular in recent yearsWell, this evening will touch on the process of using a Professional Photo Lab for your prints, with the inclusion of print profiles to get the best out of your images. We will then look at the mounting process and how different colours / orientation / location of the aperture can have a different look to your finished image. For those who print at home thinking this may not be for you, it would be useful to hear the benefits of doing your own prints / mounting too, particular cost / time benefits.a really useful evening for those looking to get started in printing / mounting!See you there! ... GOING, GOING,.......GONE!!On Monday 30th May Wakefield Camera Club will be holding their latest auction night. We haven't been able to hold one for some time due to Covid and they were always one of the highlights of the year. There should be plenty on offer both photography related and otherwise. This event will be held at Brookhouse Club as normal but due to bidding and payment requirements it will be IN PERSON ONLY rather than a hybrid meeting. Come along and grab a bargain or bring along something you want to sell and join in the fun. ... See MoreSee Less

On Monday 23rd of May we have another club outing to Walton Colliery Nature Park, just a couple of miles south of Wakefield. We will meet up at 6:30pm again in the car park on Shay Lane. NOTE THE EARLIER TIME TO MAKE THE MOST OF THE DAYLIGHT. Despite its name there is no sight of the long-closed colliery, and it now has lakes, heathland and nature reserves. Being close to Wakefield it should allow time for members to get there with plenty of daylight left (if the weather gods are kind to us!). Bring your kit with your best lenses as the weather forecast at the moment is quite good. We look forward to seeing some amazing images.HOW TO GET THERE: Walton Colliery Nature Park is located on the B6378 Shay Lane between Walton and Crofton, the nearest postcode being WF2 6PR. Travelling from Walton, the site is less than a mile from Walton centre and is on the left, about 150mts beyond the first railway bridge. Travelling from Crofton, the site is in about 1 mile and is on the right a few hundred metres beyond another railway bridge. There is a car park which should have plenty of parking. ...
