Practical Answers to Vexing Questions and Ways to Improve your Photography

Monday evening at Wakefield camera Club presented an opportunity to try and sort out those questions in your mind which won’t go away, like why can I not take a better image!!

In addition to answering your questions Wakefield camera Club is actively encouraging its members to improve their photography by seeking recognition for their hard work through awards like LRPS and CPAGB, which are Licentiateship Royal Photographic Society and Credit Photographic Alliance of Great Britain.

Many of the more experienced members who already have these and many other awards recognising their efforts were on-hand to offer advice and guidance to those interested.

Entering competitions is another great way of setting yourself a challenge and improving your work so the evening started with a look at the images from a recent competition run by the Vale of Evesham Camera Club, there were many excellent images and many which started a debate about why they had been chosen by the judges, you can see all the images by following this link which will open in a new window.

During the break there was an opportunity to review the panel of images that was successful in gaining an LRPS for club President, Sally Sallett LRPS, and towards the end of the evening Sally and other experienced members shared their experiences about how they went about earning these prestigious awards. Interestingly Sally admitted that some of the images were taken on a compact camera so it is not about your equipment it is about how you use it. For more information about distinctions with the Royal Photographic Society follow this link and for credits with the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain click here.

The second half of the evening was spent reviewing composition using a resource written many years ago by a previous club member, but the content and advice it contains is still very valid.  Those wishing to review the good advice again can do so at their own pace by following this link to the resources page which will open in a new window.

Were you inspired to join in and strive to improve your photography? – opportunities are available to existing and new members alike.
