There’s life in those stills!
On the evening of Monday 5th June there was the judging of the third round of the Clubman Trophy. There are five rounds each year for members (two Open and three Themed) comprising both Print and Digital categories. Tonight’s round was themed on “Still Life” so it was interesting to see how members had interpreted this. Subjects were very varied and many had approached their work in a very imaginative way! Whenever Still Life is mentioned people tend to think of bowls of fruit etc. but the subject is far, far wider and it made a fascinating evening. It’s a tough job for the judge as they may have to deal with both heavily manipulated images and images captured “in camera”. However after much deliberation the judge arrived at their conclusions. In the Print category Commended went to Steve Wood for “Deconstructed” and to Angela Crutchley-Rhodes for “Chocolate Milkshake”. David Kershaw was awarded Highly Commended for “The Fallen Petal”. Chris Goodacre managed to bag both third place for “Gerberas” and second place for “Halloween Supplies”, but taking first place at the top of the heap was Sally Sallett with “Garlic”. In the Digital Category, Commended went to Peter Wells for “The Study” and Michelle Howell for “Screwscraper City”, whilst Neil Clarke bagged a Highly Commended for “Still Life 2”. Third place went to Nigel Hazell for “Chillis” and second place to “Coffee!” by Angela Crutchley-Rhodes. However in a case of double delight Sally Sallett, after her triumph in the Print category, she went off with the top prize in the Digital category as well with “Draughtsman’s Delight”. Well done to Sally and all the entrants for providing some wonderful images on the night. You can see the winners in the gallery below.
