… well actually it was in Leeds, so a city then. Anyway, last week some of our members headed into this great metropolis, for an evening shoot. With a group of experienced members and a few of our recent recruits, this was a great opportiunity to chat and support one another with the challenges of low light photography. I’ll let Steve Wood tell the story.

“We arrived at the Grove pub, just as the sun was setting so we had to move quickly to grab some of the light before it dipped below the horizon, I know the outing was for a graffiti trail but the sunset simply could not be passed up!

There is so much to photograph in Leeds once you start to look, and the buildings with the carefully painted artwork (rather than graffiti) is exceptional in places and on a large scale! Street photography is also a matter of waiting and despite the light dropping, with a tripod and little bit of ISO boosting, it was easy enough to get some detailed mono images that work well to cut out the orange hue of the incandescent lighting.

AIl in all, it was a very enjoyable evening, grabbing a few images and helping the newer members with composition, exposure, and using the mono playback to get an idea of how to edit the images in post”
