Winning Textures – the Feb online results are in

For the February Online Competition the subject was “Textures” and we had an interesting collection of images to look at. Malcolm Dobson had the task of judging this month’s entrants and here are his comments.
1st – Textures – Good sharp pic expresses a variety of textures very well. The anchor well positioned along the diagonal (a much talked about foil!) . The composition works well – perhaps a bit more impact could be created if cropped a bit across the lower edge.
2nd – Surface Mounting Coxley – Compulsive image with superb textures – an unlikely subject!  Well thought out with the three points of interest well positioned in the frame. Looks about time the safety officer inspect this one!  Close run thing here with the anchor shot.
3rd – Scorched Earth – A compulsive texture and pattern image of something most of us wouldn’t look twice at!  The lighting and colour work well to emphasise the texture. The diagonal structure gives the required impact which would otherwise have been lost if it was running “square” to the borders…well thought out.
Three Commended : Rusty Bollard / Tree Bark / Raindrops – These three would have  more impact by cropping to focus attention on the real meat in the frames. They would then have been vying amongst the top three! All have superb textures and meet the competition criteria.
Thanks to all of you who entered it’s interesting to see the different approaches to the same challenge!

Thank you Malcolm for your time, effort and words. As you’ve said to me on another occasion, this judging lark is not as easy as it looks. The gallery with all the names of the entrants is below so have a look and see if you agree with Malcolm. Remember next month the subject is “Patterns and Shapes”. Have a go.
